Creating An Effective Opt-In List

Many people know how the highest-paid affiliate marketers use opt-in lists, but can’t figure out how to implement their offers or lists properly to drive sales.

Building a Strong Offer

A strong, effective offer consists of five parts:
1. An attention-grabbing headline: You need to tell your customer up front what you can offer him.  Think “what can my information do for my visitors?”
Bad headline: “Enter your e-mail below so I can send you more information about how I made it online.”
Good headline: “Learn how I made $10,000 last month – and you can too!”
2. A unique, single opportunity offer: Give your customer some immediate benefit for signing up.  Offer an e-course, e-book, pamphlet, or some other incentive to get people on your list.
3. Light a fire under their butts: If your customer feels that this is a one-time offer, or an offer that will not be available forever, they are much more likely to commit immediately.
It’s always a good idea to let your opt-ins know that you won’t share their e-mail, so include some “fine print” to let them know their information is safe with you.

Sending Appropriate E-mails

Rule 1 of autoresponders is if you spam your customers, they will NOT buy from you.
Don’t be stupid about e-mailing people on your opt-in list.  I like to send one sales pitch or review per 5-10 e-mails.  Strive for quality content which will bring customers back to your site.  You don’t have to sell people in just an e-mail.  Always try to drive traffic back to your site first.
Never send more than one sales pitch per four or five quality e-mails.  If you break this rule, you will lose former customers with whom you already have a strongly established bond.
Try to give teasers to articles on your site.  Like I said, the goal is to increase traffic back to your site.
If you have targeted traffic at your site that you want to be in contact with, you NEED an autoresponder.  I personally use AWeber, as their services are very cheap, easy to set up, and very flexible.
