6 Ways to Increase Site Traffic For Free

One of the questions I’m always being asked is, “Connor, how can I increase the targeted traffic being driven to my site cheaply or for free?”  I realize that not everyone has a monthly advertising budget over $1,000, so here are a few ways to increase your traffic for free.

1. Article Marketing

One of the best ways to establish yourself on the web is to become an expert in a field.  If people remember your name or your site after receiving some good quality information from you, they will almost definitely come back to your site later.
This is exactly the kind of traffic you want.  You want to build a relationship with your customer.  Keep providing quality information and your customer will keep coming back, time after time.
With that in mind, submitting articles to the many article directories out there will drive tons of very high quality traffic to your site while establishing you as an expert in your field.

2. YouTube Videos

YouTube is becoming a more and more competitive area for internet marketers, however, it is still a great place to receive a good quantity of traffic.  If you’re a strong speaker or have the talent for putting professional videos together, DO IT!  YouTube videos are 100% on autopilot the minute you upload them, and will drive more and more traffic over time.

3. Start Blogging!

Some people will tell you that blogs are no longer profitable.  They’re lying.  Everyone has a blog nowadays, that is true, but people are always looking for quality, dynamic content.
If you create a relationship with your blog followers and strive to always provide quality content, you will see streams of high quality traffic flowing to your site.

4. Take Advantage of Social Networking

Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, and other social networks receive millions of unique visits per day.  Take advantage of a small percentage of these hordes and you still have a LOT of traffic.
Update your Twitter, Facebook or Myspace account every time you post a new article or have an upcoming event.  People will flock to your site.

5. Link Building

Another way to establish your expert status is to become a regular forum and blog participant.  Always leave thoughtful and useful comments, but NEVER make the focus of your comment your link.
Place your link at the end of a two-to-three paragraph response, or just leave your link in your signature.  Don’t try to sell people on your site, let them sell themselves by showing them you are the expert and your advice is valuable.  Once they feel your advice is valuable to them they will run (and I mean RUN!) to your site.

6. Yahoo! Answers

Another on the “market expert” track – Yahoo! Answers is an easy way to find people who already want your help.  Remember to post your link non-invasively.  Your quality answer comes first, then your link.
